Taxonomic remark Dall (1920) on p. 357, when remarking on Macandrevia americana, states that specimens near San Diego are less lenticular, more inflated, and and more truncate anteriorly, and that "they might perhaps be regarded as a variety diegensis". This seems to be the extent of Dall's description of this variety. Cooper (1983) elevated this variety to a subspecies. [details]
