Etymology Buzhinskaya gives the etymology of Laetmonecticus as "The genus name comes from Greek words and means floating in the abyss". Greek Laitma -tos n, meaning the deep sea (Brown, 1956) is believed to be the original stem for other 'laetmon-' based genera names [details]
Status Rouse et al (2022:256) considered that Laetmonectidae was likely to be a junior synonym of Acrocirridae and that Laetmonecticus nigrum may belong to acrocirrid genera Chauvinelia or Helmetophorus [details]
