ThedynamicsofNoctilucascintillansand AcartiaclausinumbersintheBosphorusareaoftheBlackandMarmaraSeasduring2005 –2009has been analyzed. Positive correlations between the numbers ofA. clausiand N. scintillans in the Marmara Sea near the Bosphorus and thosenear the Prince Islands and lackof correlation between the numbers of these speciesin the Marmara Seaand those in the Bosphorus area of the Black Sea indicate that A. clausiand N. scintillansform independentpopulationsin the north-western Marmara Sea.The abundance ofN. scintillansnear the Bosphorus in the Marmara Sea has been10-fold higher than that in the Black Sea. High correlation (r = 0.84) be-tween the number of N. scintillansand that of dead A. clausinear the Bosphorus in the Marmara Sea seems to be evidence of significant roleof necrozooplankton in the development of studieddinoflagellate.
