Schon in der Arbeit über die Polychaeten des Eulitorals (Hartmann-Schröder in Hartmann-Schröder und Hartmann 1962) wurde darauf hingewiesen, daß im Verhältnis zu anderen südamerikanischen Ländern die chilenische Küste hinsichtlich ihrer Polychaetenfauna relativ gut bekannt ist. Diese Feststellung bezog sich allerdings hauptsächlich auf die Formen des Sublitorals, das vor allem von den verschiedenen Expeditionsschiffen aus besammelt wurde. Während von den damals von uns gefundenen Eulitoral-Arten ein Drittel bekannt waren, sind es von unseren Sublitoral-Tieren die Hälfte. Wenn man jedoch berücksichtigt, daß otwa ein Drittel der bekannten Arten vorher von mir aus dem Eulitoral Chiles, aus Peru und EI Salvador neu beschrieben worden sind, so scheint das Sublitoral doch nicht viel bekannter als das Eulitoral zu sein.
