Editor's comment Leach's original spelling is 'MAERA', which in the original capitalisation is clear. However, where it appears in lower case it appears to be spelled 'Moera'
Care must be taken with ae and oe ligatures æ and œ. These are often misinterpreted characters, both ligatures may look extremely similar in Times italics. This has led to many misinterpretations and misspellings of Maera and Moera in older literature. All original names are added to WoRMS as Maera.
