Synonymy Massin thought this species might be a young Pseudostichopus. Hérouard (1923), also, recognized some likeness to 'Pseudostichopus', especially a small pygal furrow which is certainly significant. But the image which he gave, and description, are according to M. O'Loughin (pers. comm.), G. alcocki. It is a very distinctive species with which I am very familiar, he says. It has 15 digitate tentacles, and a unique calcareous ring, which take it out of the Synallactidae. I have no reason to change what I presented in my 1998 paper on the Gephyrothuriidae (O' Loughin, pers. comm.). [details]
