Type locality North West Sweden. According to Malmgren (1867) his specimens [later described by Hessle] came from "Hab. ad Bahusiam rarior (S. Loven & Ipse)." The Bahusiam (also as Bahusia) spelling has had little usage apart from in Malmgren's work but is believed to be a Latinized form for "Bohuslän" a Swedish province in Göteland, on the northernmost part of Sweden's west coast. Authority The name Ampharete lindstroemi was published by Malmgren (1867) as Ampharete lindströmi. However, no description was provided. Only a Latinized location accompanied the name.Thus, the name is considered to be a nomen nudum, until Hessle (1917) provided a description based on re-examination of type specimens only two of which he assigned to his concept of A. lindstroemi (again as lindströmi) . Hessle presented the name as if authored by Malmgren, but this is obviously not correct as Hessle makes clear Malmgren contributed nothing to the description. Only Hessle is the author. He wrote (English translation) " Upon examination of the type specimens for A. lindströmi, I found that they belonged to two species. Most and the largest were typical A. arctica, and only two small ones agreed with the description I gave above for A. lindströmi" ... " Since Malmgren does not provide a description for his A. lindströmi" ... " the question arises whether it is entirely correct to establish these two individuals as type specimens for the species A. lindströmi. Since, however, this question is of relatively minor importance, I have preferred to retain the old name rather than introduce a new one."Publishing a nomen nudum, as Malgmren did, is a serious error, and such names are unavailable for taxonomy. Unfortunately Hessle preferred to make the same name available subsequently and he is thus its author. Subsequent to Hessle other cataloguers including the Hartman (1959: 483) catalogue, and the checklist of Holthe (1986: 87) adopted the authorship as "Ampharete lindstroemi Malmgren" (also as lindströmi). Jirkov (2001:467) used "Ampharete gr. lindstroemi Malmgren in Hessle, 1917" and Parapar et al (2012: 337) also used the "Malmgren in Hessle" authorship. These two articles do not explain the authorship chosen. Malmgren created a nomen nudum. There is no debate about that. He cannot be the author "in Hessle" as he had contributed nothing descriptive that would establish a new species.

Specimen Malm (1874: 95) recorded specimens as Ampharete lindströmii [sic] "I have taken in two places in Gullmarn, namely at Hågårdsskären at a depth of 50 fathoms and at Skår at 100, the bottom of the slough. In total, 4 specimens and all in July 1861." As the name was a nomen nudum at the time it is unknown how Malm could have identified to that name, unless he had access to Malmgren's nomen nudum specimens. [details]
