Editor's comment According to Giesbrecht (1893 ["1892"]) the original description of this species (as Antaria gracilis) is insufficient for an unequivocal species identification. Some authors have synonymized Antaria gracilis with Conaea rapax (e.g. A. Scott, 1909; Boxshall, 1977) which is inconsistent with the opinion of Heron (1977). Heron (1977) also states that Oncaea gracilis (Dana) sensu T. Scott (1894) is not conspecific with Antaria gracilis. [details]
Publication date The exact publication dates of Dana´s papers and their relative priority are not always clear from the literature. This inconsistency has caused some confusion with regard to the publication dates of the oncaeid taxa he described (see under Antaria). A review of the complicated history of citation of Dana´s publications is given by Huys & Böttger-Schnack (1994). [details]
