Grammatical gender Original describer Örsted, 1843 and others subsequently added feminine-ending adjectival species names to genus Eumenia. Therefore it is a feminine genus. [details]
Homonymy Eumenia Örsted, 1843 is junior to Eumenia Godart, 1824 (Lepidoptera]). Quatrefages (1866) replaced the name with Polyphysia, but he wrongly thought that the Eumenia spelling had been published by Risso, 1826. Actually Risso had created a different name Eunomia in Phyllodocidae. Hartman (1959 catalogue: 151 & 152) points out that Quatrefages had mistakenly attributed a prior Eumenia to Risso [details]
