Taxonomy Krüger et al (2022) give a redescription and revalidation of Ampharete cirrata from Maine, based on Baltic sea specimens, and photographs of Maine, USA, syntypes, USNM 457 (3 specimens). The illustrations are of Baltic Sea specimens from German museum collections SBRO, ZSRO, but this is not stated in the captions. Krüger et al (2022) present molecular data for the Baltic specimens compared to specimens labelled as Ampharete amphicteis from the Pacific coast of N. america, suggesting the two names used as identification represent four actual species. On this issue they state that "We believe that most previous records and synonyms of A. acutifrons have been identified incorrectly and should be re-evaluated, especially with respect to the misidentified characters".
