Etymology The authors do not state explicitly how they chose the spelling of the species epithet of the name Amphisamytha goemoncola. Names ending in 'cola' denote association. However, they state that "The Japanese name for the squat lobster Shinkaia crosnieri is Goemon-Koshioriebi, where Koshioriebi means "squat lobster" and Goemon refers to the legendary outlaw Ishikawa Goemon. According to folklore, Goemon was executed by being boiled alive in a cauldron, a fate metaphorically echoed by the appearance of S. crosnieri dwelling in hot hydrothermal vent waters. The new species described herein is named Amphisamytha goemoncola, in reference to its close association with S. crosnieri" [details]

Association Amphsamytha goemoncola was found attached to the appendages of Shinkaia crosnieri, a squat lobster widely distributed across multiple hydrothermal vent fields in the Okinawa Trough and other chemosynthesis-based environments. [details]
