Cossmann [1889, Annales de la Société Royale Malacologique de Belgique, 24: 255-255] fixed Pleurotoma nodifera Lamarck, 1822, as type species of Surcula, but under ICZN Art. 67.8 the type species of Turricula is also the type species of Surcula.
