Taxonomy Treated as a subgenus of Megalomphalus Brusina, 1871 by Bandel & Kowalke (1997) who state that it differs from the nominal subgenus "by its inclined protoconch that is partly covered by the first whorl of the teleoconch". Adam & Knudsen (1969) and Rubio & Rolán (1993) however treated Macromphalina and Megalomphalus as distinct genera, based mostly on the protoconch. [details]
