Etymology The subgeneric name Typosyllis is composed by the prefix of Greek origin typ-, meaning 'stamp' or 'model', and the name of the stem genus Syllis Lamarck, 1818, which is also the type genus of the family Syllidae, and seems to refer to the fact that when described it was the most common of all four subgenera in which the genus Syllis was divided.  [details]
