Grammatical gender Pettibone states genus Bathykermadeca is feminine. She doesn't otherwise give a derivation, or state why the name should be feminine, but clearly the name is derived from the collection site of the Kermadec Trench. The islands and trench are named after a male, Jean-Michel Huon de Kermadec. [details]
