Spelling The spelling chosen by Kinberg was "magalaensis" which is a rare spelling amongst geographic species names derived from the Strait of Magellan, named for the explorer Magellan. In Portuguese Magellan was Fernão de Magalhães. Names such as 'magellanica' are common, but 'magellensis' is also an uncommon variant [details]
