Classification Animalia incertae sedis will contain fossil or extant taxa which cannot yet be assigned to an extant phylum, or whose placement is debated and has yet to be resolved by consensus, but which nevertheless are established or significant in palaeontology, or are otherwise remarkable in form. Unplaced fossil forms are sometimes known as 'problematica'. In the past they may also have been assigned to phyla to which, with better knowledge, we can see they clearly do not belong, or to mixed phyla groups which are no longer recognised such as 'Vermes' and 'Gephyrea'. Coverage in World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) is likely to be indicative rather than comprehensive. [details]
