Authority Some authors give Johnston (1865 Catalogue) the family authorship (eg. Fauchald & Rouse (1997:117). However, no mention can be found there. In fact Johnston at that time placed Spinther in the amphinomids (his Amphinomenaceae), along with Euphrosyne. Graff (1888) in a major monograph perhaps pointedly does not overtly place Spinther in a family. The majority of texts (eg. Hartman 1959; Day, 1967) assign the first use of Spintheridae as late as Augener, 1913 [details]
