AB - The rediscovery of the holotype of Echinus elevatus Hutton 1872, and living material of this species in northern New Zealand, indicates it to be a species of Amblypneustes Agassiz, of which the Australian species A. pachistus H.L. Clark 1912. is a synonym. There is no evidence for the presence of Holopneustes inflatus Lutken 1872 in New Zealand waters. The generic name Kermabrissoides is proposed for Acanthotrema Baker and Rowe 1990 (preoccupied).
