The genus Lepidorbitoides has been considered diagnostic of the Cretaceous. Recently, however, it has been found in several localities around the Caribbean in deposits of Tertiary age. The present paper briefly discusses these data and their reliability for conclusions about the vertical range of the genus. A new genus, Bontourina, is proposed to replace the invalid name Hexagonocyclina for one of the accompanying forms in some of the faunas mentioned, and a new type species (B. inflata Caudri, n. sp.) is chosen. As an appendix, the question of the age of the Guaduas formation in Colombia is briefly discussed.
