Obsoletes burkemensis Volozh. (type species of the genus Praeobsoletes Remizova, 1993), O. timanicus Volozh., O. pauper Volozh., O. spectabilis Volozh., O. curtus Volozh., and Protriticites aquilus Volozh. (from the collection of P.P. Volozhanina) are reexamined for the first time since their original description. Obsoletes in the sense used by Volozhanina are shown to be a mixed group of members of Fusulinella (Fusulinella bocki Moell. and F. pseudobocki Lee et Chen) and Protriticites s. 1. (Protriticites burkemensis (Volozh.), P. spectabilis (Volozh.), and P. timanicus (Volozh.)), and the genus Praeobsoletes is synonymized.
