Original description Diagnosis. Test medium-to, rarely, large-sized, ovoid fusiform or short fusiform, occasionally subcylindrical, with a strongly or weakly convex middle region, convex or flat lateral sides with narrowly to widely rounded ends. Less often, elongated ovoid with a slightly convex middle region with rather widely rounded ends. Proloculus small, spherical, 40-96 μm, more often 60-80 μm. Spire tight in inner volutions, starting from the third to fourth volutions fairly free or free, gradually or sharply so. Wall moderately thick, usually 35-48 μm, rarely 22-25 or 50-62 μm, in outer volutions. Wall 4-layered, consisting of (a) a tectum, (b) a variably narrow or wide, dull diaphonotheca, this latter always being wider than in Fusulinella, (c) a variably thick internal tectorium, usually 2/3 of total wall thickness, and (d) a normally thick, not always observed outer tectorium. Vague porosity usually present. Septa sometimes slightly wavy on lateral sides, flat in middle region, slightly folded and with a coarse cellular plexus at axial ends. A phrenotheca sometimes present. Chomata high or rather high, roundly subquadrate in outer volutions, often wide and asymmetric, but not always high in inner volutions. Tunnel not too high, along with growth of turns slowly and evenly or rapidly expanding.
