Description Diagnosis: Test involute, discoidal. First whorls deviated with chernyshinellid chambers. Adult whorls oscillating to planispiral with complete endothyroid chambers. Supplementary deposits well developed (nodes, arches, projections, and lateral thickening). Wall dark, microgranular. Simple terminal aperture.
Occurrence: Late Tournaisian-middle Visean of Western Europe, Russia, Canada and USA (Conil & Lys, 1977). Acme in the early Visean (Conil et al., 1980). The FAD, previously located at the top of MFZ5 in South China (Hance, 1996), is in fact MFZ3 in our material (Pl. 3, figs. 18-19, 22, 23?); the LAD is poorly known (Septabrunsiina sp. is mentioned up to the early Asbian by Gallagher et al., 2006, text-fig. 10 p. 76); nevertheless, a transverse section of Spinobrunsiina, late Asbian in age, seems to be illustrated by Fewtrell et al., 1989 (pl. 3.7, fig. 7; under the name Planoendothyra sp.), whereas the same authors indicate the presence of Septabrunsiina up to Asbian-Brigantian (p. 60, pl. 3. 11, fig. 2; see also Somerville & Cózar, 2005 listed in our chapter about Septabrunsiina). Latest Asbian-Brigantian of Montagne Noire, southern France (Pille, 2008).
