Synonymy Papp & Schmid (1985)examined two specimens thought to be of types of this species in the d'Orbigny collections in Austria and concluded that it was a junior subjective synonym of Spirolina auatriaca dÓrb, 1846.
However, Francois Le Coze (written comment 18 Jun 2016) says D. elegans is a well documented species in the Lutetian of the Paris Basin and that Papp and Schmid's opinion was based only on the specimens in the d'Orbigny vials and did not look for specimens of this species in additional samples from the Paris Basin such as those recorded by Terquem (1882) and Le Calvez (1952). [details]
