Status The status and scope of Orthopyxis are unclear, many prominent authors (e. g. Millard, 1975) treated it as a synonym of Campanularia, while others (e. g. Cornelius, 1982) kept it valid based on the gonophore type (medusoid). Molecular data [Govindarajan, A. F., Boero, F., & Halanych, K. M. 2006. Phylogenetic analysis with multiple markers indicates repeated loss of the adult medusa stage in Campanulariidae (Hydrozoa, Cnidaria) Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution 38: 820-834] vaguely suggest that it could be valid, but a more comprehensive study including more species is needed [note added 2009] [details]
