Etymology The prefix ‘Triodonto-’ is derived from ‘Triodus’ which is the Ancient Greek name for the trident of Poseidon. The name is inspired from the distally tripartite placids. The suffix ‘-deres’ (derived from the Ancient Greek deres = neck) refers to the placids’ position in the neck region, and is furthermore com monly used in generic names of cyclorhagid kinorhynchs.
