Several benthic Phyllodocidae have a large reniform ventral parapodial cirrus with the long axis oblique, or at a right angle, to the acicula. The form and orientation of the cirrus is introduced as an auxiliary diagnostic character on the generic level, because this type of cirrus is restricted to certain genera established on the basis of other criteria previously. Incorporating this observation, a new diagnosis is provided for Clavadoce Hartman, additions are given to the description of the type species, C. splendida Hartman, and C. annenkovae Ushakov is recognized as a valid species. Bergstroemia Banse is elevated to generic rank; additions to the description of B. nigrimaculata (Moore) are made.
