Spelling Eliason's original spelling of 'littoral' was a variant spelling of the word with only one 't'. Bellan's (2001) checklist misspelled Eliason's name as 'elittoralis' instead of 'elitoralis'. (Elittoral is not a commonly used term today and is a deeper water zone below 40 m, not to be confused with 'eulittoral' which is the lower intertidal.)
