Etymology Pseudonereis fauveli is named for the French polychaete taxonomist Pierre Fauvel [details]
Synonymy Conde-Vela (2018) includes in a synonymy for the new species specimens evidently misidentified by Fauvel and Augener, namely as Pseudonereis ferox in Fauvel 1914: 120–123, Pl. 7, Figs. 13–17 (non Hansen, 1882) and as Nereis (Perinereis) variegata in Augener 1918: 205–209 (non Grube, 1858).
