Etymology Not stated but evidently a combination derived from Japan and Eulepis [details]
Synonymy Pettibone (1986: 4) only states (taken from Imajima, 1974) that "Japoeulepis was separated from Mexieulepis based on a slightly different type of fimbriated margins on the anterior 12 pairs of larger elytra and having only smooth margins on the small posterior elytra, instead of fimbriated or slightly notched." Evidently she regarded the differences as not significant at genus-level. [details]
