Diagnosis Author: "Operculum petiolatum, margine dentato. superne paleis in infundibulum dispositis ; paleæ basi spathulatæ, connatæ, superne liberæ, extremitate utrinque aurita , interdum aculeo intermedio terminali, unde uti cruciati" from which the essence is that operculum spines have lateral processes [details]
Synonymy erected as a subgenus of Hydroides for H. crucigera, H. dirampha, H. cumingii, H. sanctaecrucis, H. microtis, and H. benzoni, but not distinct from the nominal genus according to Pixell (1913), a view supported by Bastida-Zavala & ten Hove (2002) [details]
