Etymology Not stated, uncertain. The specific epithet globosa is a Latin adjective meaning 'spherical' or 'globular', and it refers presumably to the size and shape of the proboscis of the species: "The enormous proboscis [...] extends forward in front as a thick, oval pouch" (Hartman & Fauchald, 1971: 168).
