Etymology Not originally stated. The specific epithet translucens is the present participle of the Latin verb transluceo, meaning 'to be transparent', as refers presumably to the translucent or semi-transparent trait of the body wall of the species. [details]

Taxonomy Fassari (1998: 46) states that Ophelia amoureuxi Bellan & Costa, 1987 could be a junior synonym of the species. [details]
