Distribution Gulf of Mexico: Isla del Carmen (Campeche, Mexico). South Atlantic Ocean: Recife das Paredes and Recife da Lixa (State of Bahia, Brazil). [details]
Etymology The specific epithet carmenensis refers to the area where the species was collected, at the southeast of Isla del Carmen (Campeche, Mexico). [details]
Habitat In shallow waters, associated with Rhizophora mangle mangrove vegetation, without algal mat, in soft sediments (about 2/3 mud and 1/3 sand), and coral reefs. [details]
Type locality Gulf of Mexico, Mexico, Campeche, Isla Del Carmen, Boca del Puerto Real, San Julian, at the entrance of Laguna de Términos (geocoordinates not provided, estimated with gazetteer to be approximately lat. 18.754º, long. -91.511º), in very shallow waters, associated with mangrove vegetation, in soft sediments (about 2/3 mud and 1/3 sand).
