Type locality Tapajós (= "Tapajóz") River, affluent of Amazon River, Brazil. The species was described with base on material from three different stations at Tapajós River (State of Pará, Brazil), none of which was explicitly designated as being the type locality: i) near Santarém, in 28 m (22. II. 1941) (gazetteer estimate -02.41°, -54.76°); ii) about 40 km upstream, Belterra, Ford's rubber plantation, in 10 m (20. IV. 1946) (gazetteer estimate -02.63°, -54.99°); iii) "Lake Pindobal" (= probably Lake Jurucuí, near Pindobal), Belterra, 15 and 18 m (5 and 11. VI. 1946) (gazetteer estimate -02.548°, -54.972°). [details]
Type material The original description does not state if and where the type material was deposited. According to Glasby (1999: 70): "No type specimens or other material of this species could be located. The types of N. siolii are most likely in the Departmento de Zoologia Instituto de Biociências, Universidade de São Paulo [IB-USP] (P. Lana, pers. comm., 1987), but requests to borrow this material were unsuccessful." The types are not deposited at the IB-USP (João Nogueira, pers. comm., 05 October 2018), but it is possible that they are at the Museu de Zoologia, Universidade de São Paulo (MZUSP), unlabelled among the material belonging to other phyla of the collections of Ernesto and Eveline du Bois-Reymond Marcus (Marcelo Fukuda, pers. comm., 05 October 2018). [details]
