Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet robusta is the feminine of the Latin adjective robustus, meaning 'robust' or 'solid', and refers probably to the appearance of the species. [details]
Habitat Type material from Valparaíso collected near the shore, between rhizoids of Fucus. [details]
Homonymy Nereis robusta Kinberg, 1865 from South America is senior primary homonym to Nereis robusta Quatrefages, 1866 from New Zealand. Hartman (1948 and catalogue 1959) considered Quatrefages' work was published first, but today it is thought that Kinberg's work was available first. [details]
Taxonomy Hartman (1948: 64) examined and describes the original material of which she states there are numerous specimens from two locations, including an epitoke, and one lot from Valparaiso includes several species. She did not accept the synonymy by Ehlers (1901) to Nereis callaona Grube, 1857 [details]
