S. baolingi is distinguished from other Streptosyllis species by a unique combination of dorsally visible large palps with small palpostyles, palps and tentacular cirri without articulation, and enlarged chaetae in chaetigers 2 to 4. S. hainanensis is unique in possessing dorsally visible large palps and enlarged chaetae in chaetigers 2 to 5.
