During the British Spelaeological [sic] Expedition to Papua New Gumea in the summer of 1975 faunistic material was collected from a cave situated 1700 m above sea level. This material contained numerous specimens of a polychaetous species which were given to us by the Bulgarian participant of the above mentioned expedition, Dr. P. Beron. It was found to be a new species of the nereid genus Namanereis Chamberlin. After an attentive study of the species and comparisons with the other members of the genus the new species differs considerably from the others, mainly in the shape of the setae. We named the species Namanereis beroni n.sp. in honor to Dr. P. Beron.
