Begins: "During the course of a study of the life history of the polychaetous annelid, Nereis grubei ( Kinberg ), comb. nov., the author found some of the species of this genus to be variations of this species. This prompted an investigation of the reports of other closely allied species from the Eastern Pacific. Many of the identifications of Nereis callaona (Grube were found to be N. grubei. Since this resulted in some confusion, it was apparent that these species should be redescribed and their synonymies reviewed.
