Spelling Comment on the spelling of coeca/caeca. Under ICZN article 58 coeca and caeca are deemed identical. Örsted used coecum, so this spelling should be maintained, but while the species was included in Polydora the spelling 'caeca' (ae instead of oe) was common practice. Fauvel (1927) lists Saint-Joseph (1894: 59) as the first (he knew of) to use the Polydora caeca spelling. Saint-Joseph does so with a diphthong ae ligature for his record of the species from Dinard.
