Neotype León-González (1988) appears to have no statement on why a neotype is necessary, but he designates one (USNM 118203) based on samples from Isla Santa Catarina; Brazil, collected by M. L. Jones and T. P. Lowe, from 27 30 36 S, 48 32 12 W. Previously both Grube (1870) and Augener (1918) had redescribed the species from the syntypes.
