Etymology Hartman (1967) gives no clue on the origin of 'Flota', but it seems most likely an indication of swimming ability, perhaps even intended as humorous (Flota as a Latin-like spelling of sound-alike 'floater'). The anglo-saxon 'flotian' is associated with 'swim', and there are no Latin or Greek similar words. [details]
Synonymy The synonymy of Flota to Buskiella proposed by Salazar-Vallejo et al (2008) is not followed by Osborn & Rouse (2008 & 2010) who continue to use Flota and Buskiella separately (see Osborn & Rouse, 2010, supplement page 2 of 24). [details]
