Fauchald seems to have been in error in treating Halithea Lamarck, 1818 as a synonym of Laetmonice. Pettibone (1966: 97) gives Malmgren, 1867 as authority for designation of Aphrodita aculeata Linnaeus, 1758 as type species of Halithea. Since Aphrodita aculeata Linnaeus, 1758 is also type species of Aphrodita Linnaeus, 1758 (Hartman, 1959; Barnich & Fiege, 2003 and others cited therein) then Halithea Lamarck, 1818 falls in synonymy with Aphrodita Linnaeus, 1758.

Authority Lamarck, 1818 states that many annelid taxa were from a manuscript prepared by Savigny. According to the ICZN article 50.1.1, the credit of authorship belongs to Savigny, and should be cited as Savigny in Lamarck, 1818. See Álvarez-Campos et al. 2015. Zootaxa. 4040(3): 317-330. [details]
Authority As "Halithea hystrix. Sav. Mss" [Lamarck, 1818: 308] thus as with many annelid taxa in Lamarck, 1818 the correct authority is Savigny in Lamarck, 1818. See Álvarez-Campos et al., 2015 Zootaxa. 4040(3): 317-330. [details]
