Classification Foster (1971) used Microspio downgraded to a subgenus of Spio. However, mostly it is treated as a full genus in recent reports (eg Maciolek, 1990, Blake 1996). Microspio do not look like Spio species, although the character differences (branchiae from chaetiger 2, conspicuous bacillary glands) are seemingly not dramatic. [details]
