Etymology The subgeneric name Paraprionospio is composed by the prefix of Greek origin para-, meaning 'resembling', 'beside' or 'near', and the name of the subgenus Prionospio Malmgren, 1867 s. str., and presumably refers to the similarity between the two subgenera of the genus Prionospio, as created by Caullery (1914).
