Editor's comment Nereis (Ceratonereis) obocki was recorded previously in WoRMS as Ceratonereis obocki as the original name, and indeed Gravier (1899: 240) did not directly use the combination Nereis (Ceratonereis), and consequently Zoological Record of the time (vol.36) records the name as Ceratonereis obocki. However, in his text it is clear he was using Ceratonereis as a subgenus. Villalobos-Guerrero et al (2022) also record the original name as Nereis (Ceratonereis) obocki. No usage records other than secondary checklist listings (eg Hartman catalogue p.239) as 'Ceratonereis obocki' subsequent to Gravier's have yet been found. [details]
Etymology Not explicitly stated in the original description, but the specific epithet obocki refers presumably to the type locality of the species, Obock, in the Guf of Tadjoura (Djibouti, Gulf of Aden). [details]
