Editor's comment An entry error in WoRMS had attributed the authorship to Hornell (1891). The background to this error is unknown but Johnston is the author and Hornell is a usage only. [details]

Type locality Shores of Scotland. [details]

Type specimen Böggemann (2002:62) fixes a lectotype from material in the BMNH, but does not give a registration number for it [An entry for G. nigripes could not be found at the nhm.ac.uk data portal - 10 March 2015]. There appear to be no comments on the reason for selection of the lectotype from a specimen referred to G. unicornis. The remaining paralectotypes are specimens of two other species, Glycera lapidum Quatrefages, 1866, and Glycera alba (O F Muller, 1776). For this reason Böggemann appears to include nigripes in the formal synonymies of lapidum and alba, but this is misleading as G. nigripes is defined by the lectotype, and can only be a synonym of one species, G. unicornis. [details]
