Etymology The specific epithet melaenonephra is composed by the Latin word of Greek origin melaenus, meaning 'black', combined with the Greek word nephro, meaning 'kidney', and refers to the very conspicuous nephridia in most specimens of the type material, due to their walls containing much black pigment. Habitat Among holdfasts of oar-weeds, Ecklonia radiata (C.Agardh) J.Agardh, 1848. [details]
Reproduction Ripe males with segments full of sperm from about 20th segment backwards, except in a limited region at the posterior end. Ripe females with numerous oocytes in each of the segments from about 23rd to about 55th segment. [details]
