Distribution Blake (2025) lists numerous reports of Hyboscolex pacificus since the original description by Moore (1909) as Sclerocheilus pacificus. Originally described from near Monterey, California, the species has subsequently been reported from Mexico to British Columbia as well as from Russian waters in the Sea of Japan and the Kurile Islands by Ushakov (1955) and from near Hokkaido, Japan by Imajima (1961) and Imajima & Hartman (1964).
