Etymology Not stated by the author. Nereis buitendijki is obvioulsy named to honour its collector, Peter Buitendijk: "Amidst the Plankton of Malacca-strait Mr. P. Buitendijk met with a small Nereis-specimen [...]" (Horst, 1919: 59). Peter Buitendijk (1870-1932), was a ship's surgeon on the route Amsterdam-Jakarta in the years 1900-1931, who also collected biological material for the collections of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie in Leiden, now Naturalis Biodiversity Center (see Kullander et al, 2015: 576).
